In 1965 Kurt Müller founded a mechanical workshop under the name of Kurt Müller Feinmechanik (precision engineering) at Rüttenenstrasse 16 in Langendorf. Initially this workshop carried out waged labour in the areas of milling, turning, drilling, hard soldering and assembly work. Small tool grinding machines were installed and partly manufactured for a customer. Around 1975, these workshops became too small, and due to this the company moved to a larger building at Rüttenenstrasse 24a. Already in 1975, a miniature compressed-air motor was developed and built on customer’s demand, together with the necessary additional devices for medical technology. The CNC era began in 1980. First a lathe and one year later a CNC processing centre. New horizons were opened up by using these machines. In this way additional orders came from new areas such as aerospace technology. Due to the new customer sectors the rooms once again became too small and it was decided to build a new building, which was moved into in 1988 in Bellach at Allmendstrasse 4. In 1993, the name was changed from the sole proprietorship Kurt Müller to KMB Feinmechanik AG. The percentage of waged work decreased continually and the sectors of medical technology, especially high speed motor systems, were rapidly expanded. The size of the company which had been achieved in the meantime, the associated increased organisational and planning tasks meant continually higher requirements for the company management. Equally, the customer requirements in the areas of documentation and verifiability also increased. This motivated us to create the existing management system, introduce it and certify it according to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 in 2004, in order to be able to deal with the growing demand in the future. In 2006, with the retirement of the company founder Kurt Müller, KMB Feinmechanik AG merged with Rotomed GmbH and the name was changed to Rotomed AG. The company founder’s sons Daniel and Thomas Müller took over and have been actively involved in the company since 1988 and 1991. Together with their families they are interested in sustainable expansion. |
